Rakovski Map Poster & Print
Rakovski lies on the Upper Thracian Plain, east of Plovdiv. The land here is flat and heavily farmed. The town has an unusual structure for its size. It was formed in the 1960s by merging several neighbouring villages, and on a map the old village cores still read as separate clusters of streets.
Roads and strips of farmland connect these clusters. Each has its own centre and a roughly regular street grid, and the spaces between them are still partly open. Around the town, the plain is divided into long fields and crossed by straight roads and irrigation channels, with the Rhodope and Balkan ranges far beyond the frame.
