Reftinskiy Map Poster & Print
Reftinskiy is a settlement in Sverdlovsk Oblast, northeast of Yekaterinburg, surrounded by the forests of the eastern Urals. It was built in the second half of the twentieth century for the workers of the Reftinskaya power station, one of the largest coal-fired power plants in Russia. The layout was planned, with apartment blocks set out in regular microdistricts, broad streets and green spaces between them.
The station stands on the Reft river, and a large reservoir was created on the river to supply cooling water. On the map it is the dominant feature: a wide body of water beside the town. The plant, its infrastructure and the railway serving it lie to one side, while the residential districts sit close to the shore.
