Rosamond lies in the Antelope Valley in southeastern Kern County, California, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. On the map it reads as a loose grid of long, straight roads laid across flat ground. Large parcels leave open space between the streets, and the desert shows through everywhere.
To the east lies Rosamond Dry Lake, a broad, flat lakebed next to Edwards Air Force Base, where aviation and aerospace have long been part of local life.
