Royton Map Poster & Print
Royton is a town in the Oldham borough of Greater Manchester, on the edge of the Pennines. Like many of its neighbours, it grew with the cotton industry in the nineteenth century, and the map still shows that history: rows of terraced streets, larger plots where mills once stood, and main roads connecting it to nearby towns.
From above, Royton is part of a continuous urban area, but its centre is still clearly visible where the main roads meet. To the east, the land rises, and the streets thin out toward open, higher ground, a reminder of how close the moors are to these industrial towns.
