Sanxenxo Map Poster & Print
Sanxenxo lines the northern shore of the Ría de Pontevedra, one of the long, drowned river valleys that shape the Galician coast. Because the ría opens to the southwest, the town faces south across sheltered water. That orientation helps explain why it became one of Galicia's best-known summer resorts. On the map, a busy coastal strip gives way to scattered parishes and green hills inland.
The shoreline is the main feature. Sandy beaches alternate with rocky headlands and small harbours, and the promenade and coastal road follow the water closely from bay to bay. Portonovo, a fishing port within the municipality, adds a tight cluster of streets around its harbour. Toward the open Atlantic, the land narrows in the direction of the O Grove peninsula.
