Saperna Slobidka Map Poster & Print
Saperna Slobidka is a historic area in the south of Kyiv, within the Holosiivskyi district on the right bank of the Dnipro. On a map it is part of the continuous fabric of the capital. The streets are shaped by rail lines, major roads and the rolling, partly wooded terrain that typifies Kyiv's right bank.
The name means roughly sappers' settlement and goes back to military engineers stationed in this part of the city in the nineteenth century. Over time the area was absorbed into Kyiv and filled with housing, workshops and infrastructure. Old street lines and newer developments now sit side by side.
