Semënov Map Poster & Print
Semënov lies north of Nizhny Novgorod, in the wooded country beyond the Volga. The forests around it are part of the historic Kerzhenets area, long associated with Old Believers. The town's map is a regular layout of mostly straight streets and blocks of low houses, crossed by a railway line. Beyond the last streets the forest begins almost at once.
The town is famous as a centre of Khokhloma painting, the decorative style of red, black and gold on wooden tableware. It is also known for its own school of matryoshka nesting dolls. Wooden craft workshops have shaped Semënov's identity for generations, and the craft is still very much alive here.
