Shostka Map Poster & Print
Shostka lies in the north of Sumy Oblast, close to the border with Russia, on a river of the same name. From above, the town is fairly compact. A central grid of residential streets sits near the river, while larger industrial sites and rail lines stretch along the edges. Forest and farmland surround it on most sides.
The town grew around gunpowder production that began here in the eighteenth century. It later became known across the Soviet Union for Svema, whose photographic and cinema film was made in Shostka for decades. That industrial past remains visible on a Shostka map poster. Large factory plots and railway sidings sit next to regular blocks of housing.
The river gives the map its softer line. It curves past the town, with low ground and small ponds along its banks. In black and white, the poster balances the ordered centre with the looser outskirts. Rail lines and main roads leave town in several directions, and the edges fade into forest.
