Slaný Map Poster & Print
Slaný lies in Central Bohemia, north-west of Prague, in a landscape of gently rolling farmland. From above, the historic centre stands out as an oval of medieval streets that once lay within the town walls, now surrounded by later neighbourhoods, a railway line and roads leading toward Prague, Kladno and Louny.
The old town has a large main square, several churches with tall towers, and preserved gates, including the Velvary Gate, which have earned Slaný its reputation as a town of towers. Just outside the centre rises Slánská hora, a small volcanic hill with exposed basalt columns, protected as a natural monument and visible from much of the town.
