South Hill covers a broad upland directly south of Puyallup in Pierce County, Washington. From above, the contrast with the valley below is striking. The old river town sits on a flat floodplain, while South Hill's streets climb onto the plateau and spread out in curving subdivisions, winding lanes and dead ends. It is an unincorporated community, and its layout reflects decades of steady residential growth rather than a single plan.
A few long arterial roads run north to south across the hill and carry most of the traffic, with shopping centres and offices gathered along them.
