Stolberg Map Poster & Print
Stolberg lies just east of Aachen, on the northern edge of the Eifel. Its historic centre is squeezed into the narrow valley of the Vicht, and on a map the old town appears as a slim, dense strip of streets along the river, with steep, wooded slopes on both sides and newer districts on the higher ground.
The town is known as the Kupferstadt, the copper town, after centuries of brass production that began in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Many of the old copper yards, the Kupferhöfe, still stand in the valley. Above the old town, Burg Stolberg sits on a rocky spur, the most recognisable view in town.
