Sūlūru Map Poster & Print
Sūlūru, often written Sullurpeta, lies in southern Andhra Pradesh near the border with Tamil Nadu. It sits between the Chennai–Kolkata highway and the western shore of Pulicat Lake, one of the largest brackish-water lagoons in India. On a map, the town lies between two strong features: straight transport lines on one side and wide, irregular water on the other.
Sūlūru is best known as the nearest town to Sriharikota, the barrier island in Pulicat Lake that is home to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, India's main launch site. A road runs across the lake to the island, drawing a long line over open water. Engineers, scientists and visitors pass through the town on their way.
The town's streets cluster around the railway station and the main road, with denser lanes near the old centre and newer layouts toward the edges.
