Suşehri sits in the far northeast of Sivas province, on a wide plain drained by the Kelkit River. The town is the clear focus of the valley. A compact core of streets gathers around the main roads, and past its edges the map opens into a patchwork of fields that reaches the surrounding slopes.
Its position makes it the service town for the villages of the plain. The main roads run through it, linking the area to the rest of Sivas and to the neighbouring provinces of the Black Sea hinterland. The street pattern mixes older irregular blocks near the centre with straighter, more recent development on the outskirts.
