Turinsk Map Poster & Print
Turinsk stands on the Tura River in the east of Sverdlovsk Oblast, just beyond the Urals. On the map the river is the main feature. It loops through the flat, forested lowland, and the town sits on its bank with streets set out in a simple grid at right angles to the water.
Founded in 1600 as a fortified post on the route into Siberia, Turinsk is one of the oldest Russian towns east of the mountains. Several Decembrists were later exiled here. A Turinsk map poster shows the scale of such a place: a modest street pattern set against the open curves of the river.
Outside the centre, wooden-house blocks give way to meadows, oxbow lakes and forest. In black and white, the fine lines of the town contrast with the broad sweep of the Tura and the empty space around it.
