Vellakkinar is a locality on the northern side of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Like many areas around the city, it has changed quickly as Coimbatore has grown, and residential layouts now cover land that was once mostly farmland. To the west the Western Ghats rise above the plain, giving this part of the city a mountain backdrop.
The map reflects that growth. Some parts have older, irregular streets that follow earlier village roads and field boundaries, while newer housing layouts have straighter streets in regular blocks. Main roads connect the locality with central Coimbatore and with the surrounding suburbs, and patches of open land and water bodies still appear between the built-up areas.
