Weidian is a town in Gansu province in north-western China, in the loess highlands of the upper Wei River basin. This is a landscape of soft, wind-deposited soil, carved by water into ridges, gullies and terraced slopes. Towns here tend to sit on the flatter valley floors, and Weidian follows that pattern.
From above, the built-up area is compact, with a main road and a handful of connecting streets that fill the available level ground.
