Zalău Map Poster & Print
Zalău lies in northwestern Romania, in the valley of a small river of the same name, at the foot of the Meseș mountains. From above the town stretches along the valley floor. The older centre is at its core, and residential districts of apartment blocks climb the slopes on either side. Roads follow the valley out towards Cluj-Napoca in the southeast and the lowlands to the northwest.
As the seat of Sălaj County, Zalău grew considerably in the second half of the twentieth century, when industry brought large new housing estates. On the map these appear as distinct blocks of regular, closely spaced buildings. They stand apart from the smaller, more irregular streets of the historic centre around the main square.
A few kilometres away, on the ridge of the Meseș, lie the remains of Porolissum, one of the largest Roman settlements in the province of Dacia. A Zalău map poster centres on the town itself.
