Zhenxi sits in the hill country of Chongqing municipality, where the ground is rarely flat. On a map the town has no neat grid. Its streets bend to follow the contours and gather wherever a valley floor or a gentle shoulder of land gives them room. Around the built-up core, the linework thins into winding rural roads.
This is the landscape of the wider Yangtze basin: layered ridges, small streams cutting down between them and farmland stepped into the slopes.
