Anloga sits on the thin strip of land that separates the Gulf of Guinea from the Keta Lagoon in Ghana's Volta Region. From above, the town reads as a long band rather than a circle. The beach runs along one side and the lagoon shore along the other, with a single coastal road threading between them and lanes and compounds filling the gap in a loose, sandy grid.
The town is the traditional capital of the Anlo Ewe, and each year it hosts Hogbetsotso, the festival that recalls the people's migration from Notsie. That seat of authority does not appear on the map as a monumental plan. Instead, the settlement grows in clusters around family compounds, with small plots of farmland pressed into every open patch between the houses and the water.
An Anloga map poster captures a place defined almost entirely by water. The lagoon's irregular edge, with its inlets and shallow margins, contrasts with the smooth, straight line of the ocean beach. Atlantic beach line
To the south, the Gulf of Guinea coast runs almost perfectly straight for kilometres. This clean edge gives the poster a strong horizontal base and frames the town from below.
Coastal road spine
A single main road follows the sandbar lengthwise, linking Anloga with Keta to the east and the Volta estuary to the west. Most of the town's lanes branch off it.
