The land here is almost perfectly flat, and from above the town appears as a compact block of streets surrounded by rectangular fields. Straight roads and drainage channels run at right angles to one another, giving the whole area a measured, surveyed look that changes little from one horizon to the next.
The built-up area mixes older lanes with newer, wider streets and residential compounds, a pattern shared by many towns in the region that have grown quickly in recent decades.
