Winding local roads
Roads and paths follow the terrain and the streams rather than a grid. They form soft, organic lines across the poster.

Ambodimanga II Map Poster & Print
Ambodimanga II lies in the Analanjirofo region on the east side of Madagascar, a green, rain-fed stretch of land between the Indian Ocean coast and the island's central highlands. From above, settlements here are modest and closely tied to the land around them. Paths and local roads curve along streams and low hills instead of following any planned grid.
The region's name is usually explained as referring to cloves. Clove trees, along with vanilla, lychee and other crops, have long shaped the local economy. The countryside around Ambodimanga II is a mix of plots, tree crops and remaining forest, crossed by the small rivers that drain toward the coast. These features give the map its rhythm.
An Ambodimanga II map poster is quieter than a city map. Its lines are few and irregular, and blank space stands for fields and woodland. That restraint is the point. It records a place that rarely appears in atlases, for the people who know it well, in the same careful style used for major capitals.

Rivers toward the coast
Small waterways run east toward the Indian Ocean. On the map they show as fine threads that connect the settlement to the lowlands.
Cultivated countryside
Clove trees, other crops and forest surround the built area, so most of the poster is open space around a small, compact core.
