Apsley Strait
A narrow channel separates Bathurst from Melville Island. On the map it is a thin, winding line of water, making the two islands look like halves of one landmass.

Bathurst Island Map Poster & Print
Bathurst Island is the smaller of the two main Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory. Its outline is broad and rounded, with an uneven coast of beaches, mangrove-lined creeks and tidal inlets. To the east, the narrow Apsley Strait separates it from Melville Island.
The main community, Wurrumiyanga, formerly known as Nguiu, lies in the southeast near the strait. Its street layout is the densest part of the map. Across the rest of the island, tracks run through savanna woodland and along creeks toward the coast, with smaller outstations scattered in between.
The Tiwi people have lived on the islands for thousands of years with a distinctive culture, and Tiwi art, from carved poles to printed textiles, is known well beyond Australia. A Bathurst Island map poster shows the island and its strait, with the community on the water's edge.

Mangrove creeks
Tidal creeks and mangrove shores break the coastline. On the map they appear as many small inlets reaching inland from the Timor and Arafura seas.

Warum Bathurst Island
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Bathurst Island is home country for Tiwi families, and it holds a special place for people who have worked, taught or visited there. The map is a respectful, simple record of the island's shape and its community by the strait.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised. It is available in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand gives the island a warm, earthy tone that suits its savanna and coast.
