From above, the town is a regular grid of streets beside the river's green corridor. Beyond that corridor stretches the dry, open Patagonian steppe, crossed by straight roads and service tracks.
Oil and gas production has shaped Catriel's growth, and the surrounding land is marked by wells, pipelines and access roads that appear on the map as fine straight lines on empty ground.
