Comodoro is a municipality in the far west of Mato Grosso, in a region where the Cerrado savanna meets the southern edge of the Amazon forest, not far from the border with Bolivia. The town itself is the centre of a very large territory of ranches, farmland and remaining forest.
Like many towns founded during the settlement of Brazil's western frontier, Comodoro was laid out with a regular street grid, easily visible on the map as a neat block pattern surrounded by open country. Long highways cross the region, connecting it with other towns of Mato Grosso and Rondônia.
