Clustered compounds
Buildings and courtyards cluster tightly at the centre. They create the irregular, organic texture typical of Sahelian towns, clearly visible against the plain.

Diourou Map Poster & Print
Diourou is a small town in the Ségou region of central Mali, the historic heartland along the middle course of the Niger River. The surrounding country is flat Sahelian plain. From above, the settlement appears as a compact cluster of compounds and lanes set within an open landscape of fields and scattered trees.
Life in this part of Mali follows farming and the seasons. Rain-fed crops are grown here, and elsewhere in the region irrigated land draws on the Niger. Around towns like Diourou, footpaths and dirt roads link homesteads, fields and neighbouring villages in a loose network that changes little from year to year.
A Diourou map poster draws this quiet setting in simple lines. The dense core of the town stands out clearly in black, while the surrounding plain is left largely open, crossed only by thin tracks. It is an honest, uncluttered portrait of a place that rarely appears on printed maps, and it is drawn at the same level of detail as any city.

Network of tracks
Dirt roads and paths branch out toward fields and neighbouring villages. They form a fine, spreading web across the frame.
Open Sahel plain
The land around the town is flat and largely open. This gives the composition generous white space and a sense of distance in every direction.

Warum Diourou
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
For people from Diourou and the Ségou region who now live in Bamako or abroad, a map of home is a meaningful object that is rarely available anywhere. It keeps the shape of the town and its paths close at hand.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a family name, and the coordinates line, then pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand gives the print the warm tone of the Sahel.
