Frontera Map Poster & Print
Frontera is the main town of the Centla municipality in Tabasco, located where the Grijalva River reaches the Gulf of Mexico. Just upstream, the Usumacinta has joined it, so the river here is broad and slow. On a map the town is a modest grid on the river's bank, facing a wide sweep of water that almost outweighs the streets.
The land around Frontera is low and wet. Lagoons, channels and marshes spread to the east and south, and much of this area is protected as the Pantanos de Centla biosphere reserve, one of the largest wetlands in Mesoamerica. Along the coast, a thin line of beach separates the Gulf from the wetlands behind it.
A Frontera map poster is mostly water, with the town's streets clustered at its edge. Frontera has long served as a river port. Graham Greene passed through in the 1930s, and the harbour at the opening of The Power and the Glory draws on places like it. The map shows why: this is a place defined by arrival from the water.

Riverside grid
Frontera's streets form a compact grid along the bank. The waterfront and port area make up the edge closest to the river.
Centla wetlands
East and south of town, lagoons and channels fill the map with irregular shapes. They form part of an extensive protected wetland reserve.

Warum Frontera
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
For people who know the port, the river and the ride out to the coast, this map is an accurate record of a place shaped by water. The broad estuary and the small grid make a strong, balanced composition.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Sand suit the waterlogged terrain especially well.
