Fortress wall outline
The fort's defensive walls draw an irregular ring around the hill. This heavy line separates the old citadel from the neighbourhoods that grew up against it.

Golconda Map Poster & Print
Golconda rises on a granite hill on the western side of Hyderabad, and its fort shapes everything around it. The citadel was built up over centuries and became the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in the sixteenth century. Heavy walls enclose it, and their irregular outline follows the terrain rather than any geometric plan. From above, the fortress reads as a dense, bounded core surrounded by later city growth.
Inside and around the walls the streets are narrow and bend sharply, a pattern left by a defended settlement where space was tight. Outside, the map loosens into the wider road network of modern Hyderabad. A short distance away, the domed Qutb Shahi tombs stand in their own walled grounds. The contrast between the fortified knot and its open surroundings gives the composition a strong centre.
Golconda was once famous as a trading centre for diamonds mined in the region, and its name became a byword for great wealth. Visitors also know the fort's acoustic trick: a handclap at the entrance gate is said to carry up to the pavilion on the summit. A Golconda map poster turns these layers of history into a clear graphic of walls, lanes and slopes.

Bala Hissar summit
The Bala Hissar stands at the top of the hill as the highest point of the citadel, and the lanes and stairways inside the fort all lead up to it.
Qutb Shahi tombs
Just beyond the fort, the royal necropolis occupies its own enclosure, a quieter block of paths and garden space set apart from the surrounding street pattern.

Warum Golconda
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Golconda appeals to anyone with roots in Hyderabad or an interest in the Deccan's dynasties. On a wall, the fortified outline has the presence of an old survey drawing, strong enough to carry a large frame on its own.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or a date. Then pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the engineered walls particularly well. Printed posters ship from print partners in more than 30 countries.
