Converging tracks
Roads and footpaths from the surrounding villages meet at the town centre. Together they form a star-like pattern, the strongest graphic element of the poster.

Gomboussougou Map Poster & Print
Gomboussougou is a town in the Centre-Sud region of Burkina Faso, in the province of Zoundwéogo. On a map it looks very different from a European town. A small centre with a few defined streets is surrounded by clusters of compounds and fields, and tracks link it to neighbouring villages in several directions across flat country.
The surrounding landscape is Sudanian savanna, farmed in a rhythm set by the rainy season. Seasonal watercourses leave faint lines across the terrain, filling in the wet months and drying out afterwards. From above, the way paths converge on the centre shows how the town works as a meeting point for the villages around it.
A Gomboussougou map poster is a quiet record of a place that is seldom mapped in detail. The linework is sparse by nature, and that openness is part of its appeal. A few roads, a cluster of streets and a lot of empty space read on a wall almost like an abstract drawing.

Compound clusters
Homes are grouped in family compounds rather than long rows of houses, so the built area appears as scattered clusters rather than a continuous grid.
Seasonal waterways
Shallow seasonal streams cross the surrounding farmland. They appear as thin, irregular lines that contrast with the straighter roads and hint at the rhythm of the rainy season.

Warum Gomboussougou
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
For people from Gomboussougou living in Ouagadougou or abroad, a map of the town holds onto a specific place rather than a whole region. Its sparse, open composition also works well in a modern interior.
Set the title, subtitle and coordinates to anything you like, such as the family name or a date that matters, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 HD files can be printed locally at any of six sizes.
