Jumilla sits in the northern uplands of the Region of Murcia, a dry, open landscape of plains and bare ridges. The town climbs the lower slope of a hill topped by a castle, and on the map this shows clearly. Tight, irregular streets in the old quarter bunch up against the hill, while straighter, newer blocks spread out on the level ground below.
The area is known above all for wine. Jumilla gives its name to a protected designation of origin built largely on the Monastrell grape, and the land around the town is a patchwork of vineyards and farm tracks. A Jumilla map poster frames the town inside that agricultural geometry.
