The Heads
Two sandstone headlands frame the narrow channel where the lagoon meets the ocean. On the map, that pinch point is the most dramatic feature in the frame.

Knysna Map Poster & Print
Knysna is organised around its lagoon. The Knysna River widens into a large tidal estuary before it squeezes out to the Indian Ocean through a narrow gap between two sandstone cliffs, known as the Heads. Seen from above, the water takes up the centre of the map, and the town lines its northern shore with streets that climb into the wooded hills behind.
Out in the lagoon lie Leisure Isle and Thesen Island, each linked to the shore by causeway, with their own small networks of roads. The town is known for the indigenous forests of the surrounding district and for oysters farmed in the estuary, and it is one of the best-known stops along the Garden Route in the Western Cape.
A Knysna map poster has a strong natural composition. The lagoon forms a pale open shape in the middle, the Heads mark a clear point where it meets the sea, and the streets thread along the shoreline and up the slopes. It is a place where the water does most of the drawing.

Lagoon islands
Leisure Isle and Thesen Island sit in the estuary and connect to the mainland by causeways. Each carries its own compact web of streets.
Hillside town
The main town runs along the northern shore, with roads winding uphill into the forested slopes and giving the print a layered, terraced edge.

Warum Knysna
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Knysna is a place people come back to for holidays, weddings and slow summers. A print of its lagoon and the Heads keeps that coastline close, and the shape of the water is clear enough to recognise at a glance.
You can add a title, a subtitle and coordinates, such as a family name, a wedding date or the lagoon's exact position. It comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand and Blueprint both suit the water well.
