There is no dense town centre here. Instead, the map shows a loose settlement pattern of houses and small junctions spread across gently rolling land, with plantations and fields filling the space between roads.
The Periyar, Kerala's longest river, runs through this part of the district, and its course is the most distinctive natural line in the area.
