Kurashiki Map Poster & Print

Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture covers a wide area, from the inland plain down to the Seto Inland Sea. From above, it has several distinct parts. The historic centre sits on the plain, the Takahashi River runs through the west, the Mizushima industrial zone fills the coast with docks and refineries, and the Kojima district lies to the southeast by the sea.

The Bikan historical quarter is the city's best-known area. A narrow canal lined with willows runs through it, flanked by white-walled storehouses from the Edo period when this was a rice-trading town. Next to the canal stands the Ohara Museum of Art, which opened in 1930 as the first museum of Western art in Japan. On the map, the canal is a thin line in a dense grid of lanes.

A Kurashiki map poster can include the coast and bridges as well as the old town. Kojima is known as the home of Japanese denim, and it is where the Great Seto Bridge begins its crossing to Shikoku, island by island. The long bridge and the straight quays of Mizushima give the southern edge its clearest lines.

01

Bikan canal

A narrow, willow-lined canal runs through the historic storehouse quarter beside the Ohara Museum of Art, the most finely drawn detail on the map.

02

Mizushima coast

Docks, piers and industrial blocks fill the shore of the Inland Sea with large straight-edged shapes.

03

Great Seto Bridge

From Kojima, the long bridge crosses to Shikoku by way of small islands and draws a thin line across open water.

Warum Kurashiki

Eine Karte mit Bedeutung

Kurashiki suits someone who remembers a slow walk along the canal, a denim workshop in Kojima or the view from the bridge. The old quarter and the coast make a varied map with plenty of detail.

Name the poster after a street or a visit and add a date, keeping the coordinates line. Each of the five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, brings out the canal differently.
