Palikir Map Poster & Print
Palikir is unusual as capitals go. It is not a dense town but a compact administrative centre in the northwest of Pohnpei, one of the islands of the Federated States of Micronesia. From above, a handful of roads wind through hilly, forested terrain. Government buildings and scattered housing sit along them, with plenty of green space around.
Palikir became the national capital in 1989, when government functions moved there from the nearby town of Kolonia. The larger town remains the island's commercial centre, and roads connect the two across the northern part of Pohnpei. Pohnpei itself is a high volcanic island known for heavy rainfall and lush vegetation, which shapes how open and green the map looks.
A Palikir map poster is quiet and spacious. Rather than a grid, it shows a few curving roads, clusters of buildings and wide stretches of land between them. Part of the island coast and nearby Kolonia can be brought into the frame. The result is a gentle, understated print of a very small capital.

Winding roads
Instead of a grid, Palikir has a few roads that curve with the hilly terrain. They give the map a loose, organic line work that suits a minimal style.
Link to Kolonia
Roads connect Palikir with Kolonia, the former capital and main town of Pohnpei. A wider frame can show both places and the green land between them.

Warum Palikir
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Palikir means most to people who have worked, studied or grown up on Pohnpei. A calm map of its winding roads and open land is a thoughtful way to mark time spent in Micronesia or keep a home island in view.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name, a year or a phrase in Pohnpeian. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The sparse layout suits the lighter Paper and Sand styles especially well.
