Papatoetoe Map Poster & Print
Papatoetoe is a suburb in South Auckland, New Zealand, lying between arms of the Manukau Harbour and the Tamaki Estuary side of the isthmus, close to Auckland Airport. From above, it is a continuous spread of residential streets, crossed by Great South Road and by the main rail line with its station near the old town centre.
The suburb grew as a borough in its own right before becoming part of the wider Auckland region, and its older shopping street keeps a distinct centre among the housing. Parks and sports grounds break up the residential blocks, and creeks and tidal inlets give the edges of the map an irregular, watery outline.
A Papatoetoe map poster shows the layered shape of a suburban community within a large city. In monochrome the street pattern forms a detailed texture, the railway and main roads provide direction, and the inlets at the edges add softness. It is an honest, familiar portrait of a place people call home.
