Puryŏng-ŭp Map Poster & Print
Puryŏng-ŭp is the administrative town of Puryŏng County in North Hamgyong Province, in the far northeast of North Korea. The region is mountainous, and from above the town is shaped by its valley. Streets and buildings occupy the flatter land along the valley floor, and wooded slopes rise on either side.
Detailed information about towns in this part of the country is limited, and this page does not guess at it. What the map shows is the general pattern of a North Korean county seat. There is a compact centre with some larger buildings and open spaces, residential blocks nearby, and roads continuing along the valleys toward neighbouring areas.
A Puryŏng-ŭp map poster is best understood as a record of a place's shape: a small town fitted into mountain terrain. It will mean most to those with family ties to the region or a particular interest in northeastern Korea.

Compact centre
The core of the town is a small grouping of streets and larger blocks. It is typical of a county seat, and quieter housing areas surround it.
Surrounding mountains
Steep, forested terrain encloses the town on all sides. On paper, it appears as wide open space, which makes the valley streets stand out clearly.
