Quba lies in the northeast of Azerbaijan, on the slopes where the Greater Caucasus descends toward the Caspian lowlands. On the map the town sits on the southern bank of the Qudiyalchay. A fairly regular pattern of streets lies in the centre, while orchards and farmland spread out beyond the edges.
Directly across the river lies Qırmızı Qəsəbə, the Red Settlement, often described as one of the largest Mountain Jewish communities in the world. A bridge links the two, and together they make one of the most unusual pairings of neighbouring towns in the Caucasus. The region is also famous for its apples and its carpets.
