Compound quarters
The town is made up of walled compounds and open yards, linked by narrow lanes. This produces a light, scattered texture across the centre of the map.

Die Karte
Rahad al Bardi Map Poster & Print
Rahad al Bardi lies in South Darfur, in the far west of Sudan, near the borders with Chad and the Central African Republic. The land here is broad savanna. From above, the town is a loose cluster of compounds and lanes with a few wider roads running through it and off across the plain.
The word rahad refers to a seasonal pool or depression that fills with water in the rains. Low ground like this, together with dry watercourses, can show up on the map as soft curves among the straighter tracks. Compound walls and open yards give the town a light, spacious texture.
A Rahad al Bardi map poster is a simple image. It shows the pattern of a town whose shape comes from the land, the seasons and the routes that pass through it. For people with ties to the area, especially those who have had to leave, a map can hold a strong personal meaning.

Tracks across savanna
Roads and tracks lead from the town across the open plain towards other settlements. They form long, simple lines that stretch to the edges of the print.
Seasonal low ground
Depressions and dry watercourses around the town fill in the rainy season. On the map they appear as soft, irregular shapes among the straighter routes.
