Royal hill
The rocky hill near the old centre holds the graves of the Khama family, and on the map it is a quiet landmark with the village spreading around it.

Die Karte
Serowe Map Poster & Print
Serowe does not have a dense grid. From above it looks more like a wide scatter of homesteads, sandy lanes and small clusters of buildings. The settlement spreads over the gently rolling bush country of Botswana's Central District, and a low rocky hill rises near the traditional heart of the village.
Serowe has long been the capital of the Bamangwato people. Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's first president, was born here and is buried on the hill alongside other members of the royal family. The writer Bessie Head also lived in Serowe and wrote about it in her book Serowe: Village of the Rain Wind.
A Serowe map poster shows a place where the spaces between buildings count as much as the buildings. Tracks meet in informal junctions, the few paved roads stand out as firmer lines, and the whole village thins gradually into savanna. It suits anyone who wants a softer, more open composition.

Sandy lane network
Most streets are unpaved tracks that curve between homesteads, so the map has an irregular, hand-drawn look.
Open edges
There is no hard boundary. Buildings simply get sparser toward the bush, which gives the print a gentle, fading outline.

Warum Serowe
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
For people from the Central District, Serowe means home, kgotla and family, and its link to Botswana's independence gives it wider meaning too. The loose, airy layout works well in calm rooms and on larger formats such as 50×70 cm.
You can add a personal title, subtitle and coordinates line, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper with an optional frame.
