Die Karte
Skúvoy Map Poster & Print
Skúvoy lies in the southern Faroe Islands, just south of Sandoy, and is reached by a short ferry crossing. It is a small island with a single village of the same name on the east coast, where the land slopes most gently to the sea. From there the ground rises steadily westward to high cliffs that fall straight into the North Atlantic.
The outline is compact and slightly wedge-shaped, and the map is almost entirely coastline and open grassland. The village forms a small knot of lanes around its harbour, and a few paths lead up across the hills to the cliff edge. A Skúvoy map poster is a study in scale: one settlement, one island, surrounded by open sea.
The island is named after the great skua, and its western cliffs hold large colonies of seabirds. It is also linked to Sigmundur Brestisson, the Viking-age chieftain who brought Christianity to the Faroes. According to the sagas he lived on Skúvoy, and a gravestone in the village churchyard is traditionally associated with him.

Western cliffs
The land climbs west to high sea cliffs where the coastline turns sharp and unbroken, home to seabird colonies through the summer months.
Sandoy crossing
A narrow strait separates Skúvoy from Sandoy to the north. The ferry that links the island to the rest of the Faroes crosses it.

Warum Skúvoy
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Skúvoy is chosen by Faroese families with roots in the village, by birdwatchers, and by travellers who made the effort to reach one of the archipelago's smallest communities. Its simple, strong outline suits a quiet wall and reads clearly even at modest sizes.
Set the title in Faroese or English, add a subtitle with a name or year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the six HD sizes for $9 or order a matte print.
