Sorong Map Poster & Print
Sorong occupies the far western point of the Bird's Head Peninsula of New Guinea, where the mainland breaks into straits and islands. The city stretches along the shoreline, its streets squeezed between the water and the hilly, forested ground behind. From above, the built area forms a long band that follows the coast, with the small island of Doom sitting just offshore.
The city's modern growth dates from the Dutch colonial period, when oil exploration began in the area, and it has remained a port and a regional centre for shipping, fuel and trade. In 2022 it became the capital of the new province of Southwest Papua. For many travellers it is the arrival point for the islands of Raja Ampat, reached by boat from its harbour.
On a Sorong map poster, the coastline carries most of the drama. Roads trace the edge of the sea, the harbour breaks the shore into jetties and inlets, and the islands to the west appear as quiet shapes in open water. The inland streets thin out toward the hills, leaving a clear line between town and landscape.

Doom Island
A small island lies just off the city's waterfront, its compact grid of streets clearly separate from the mainland and one of the most recognisable shapes on the map.
Gateway harbour
Jetties and port areas mark the waterfront from which boats depart for Raja Ampat and other islands, linking the city to the scattered archipelago to the west.

Warum Sorong
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Sorong is a working city, but for many it is also where a journey began: the first night before the islands or a posting in Papua. A map of its coastline keeps that edge-of-the-world place easy to recall.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the date of a dive trip or a move. Choose Blueprint for the sea, Noir for contrast or any of the other styles, and download the files or have the poster printed and shipped.
