Vredefort Map Poster & Print
Vredefort is a small town in the Free State province of South Africa, surrounded by open farmland and low ridges. Its street plan is simple and orderly, a compact grid of blocks with roads leading out across the countryside. What makes the location remarkable is the ground it stands on, part of one of the most significant geological sites on Earth.
The town gives its name to the Vredefort Dome, the remains of an enormous asteroid impact roughly two billion years ago and the largest verified impact structure known. Part of the dome is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around it, rings of hills and the winding Vaal River trace the ancient crater's eroded shape.
A Vredefort map poster brings together the modest grid of the town and the wider landscape of curving ridges, farm roads and river bends. Seen in black and white, the clean rectangular core stands out against the looser, arc-shaped patterns of the surrounding terrain, a small town sitting inside a very large story.

Compact town grid
Vredefort itself is laid out as a tidy grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks, a clear geometric shape among the open fields of the Free State.
Vaal River bends
To the north, the Vaal River meanders through the dome area, its loops cutting through the ridges and forming the most fluid lines on the map.
