Old town lanes
The historic core is a dense web of narrow, irregular alleys that open onto small squares, one of the most intricate street patterns in the Gulf.

Al Muharraq Map Poster & Print
Al Muharraq occupies an island just northeast of Manama. On the map it is a patchwork of the very old and the newly built. The historic centre is a tight tangle of narrow lanes and courtyard houses, with no grid to organise it. Around it, straight coastlines of reclaimed land and planned districts push the island's edge further into the Gulf.
Muharraq was Bahrain's capital until 1923, and its old town is linked to the pearling economy that once supported the islands. Part of that heritage, the Pearling Path, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Bahrain International Airport also sits on Muharraq island, and its runways form a large, flat rectangle next to the city.
An Al Muharraq map poster puts the maze of the old town next to the ruler-straight lines of reclamation and the airport. Causeways cross the shallow water to Manama. That mix of organic and engineered shapes makes the island unusually graphic, and it tells the story of how Bahrain grew from a pearling port into a modern state.

Causeways to Manama
Several causeways cross the bay between Muharraq and the main island, drawing straight lines over open water on the poster.
Reclaimed edges
Much of the island's outline is made of reclaimed land with sharp, straight edges, in clear contrast with the older, softer shoreline.

For Bahrainis and for people who have lived on the islands, Muharraq stands for old houses, pearling stories and the view back across the water. A map captures all of it in one clean graphic.
