Tiered old town
Houses and lanes step up the mountainside in close layers. On the poster the upper streets appear as tight, curving strokes that trace the slope almost like contour lines.

‘Aqrah Map Poster & Print
‘Aqrah, also written Akre, sits at the foot of a mountain range in the Kurdish north of Iraq. Its older quarters are built directly into the slope, so from above the streets form stacked, curving lines that follow the contours. The newer town spreads more evenly across the flatter ground below.
The town is widely known for its Newroz celebrations each March, when people carry torches up the mountainside above the old town and the slope is lit from bottom to top. The same hillside gives the map its structure: steep, terraced lanes above, a looser grid below.
An ‘Aqrah map poster shows that meeting of mountain and plain in a single frame. Narrow lanes crowd the upper town, roads widen as they reach the lower districts, and the built area stops where the terrain becomes too steep. It is a print about how a place adapts to its ground.

Newroz hillside
The slope above the old town is where torches are carried during Newroz each spring. On the map it marks the point where dense streets give way to open mountain.
Lower town spread
Below the slope the town opens into a more regular pattern of streets and blocks, a clear contrast to the packed lanes of the hillside quarters.

དོན་དག་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཁྲ།
For people from ‘Aqrah, the stepped hillside is literally the shape of home. For others it is a striking example of a town built against a mountain, and the print carries that drama in simple black lines.
You can write the title the way you prefer, Akre or ‘Aqrah, add a subtitle or a date such as a Newroz you remember, and pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
