Atraulī Map Poster & Print
Atraulī lies in Aligarh district in western Uttar Pradesh, on the flat, fertile plain between the Ganges and the Yamuna known as the Doab. From above, the old town is a dense web of narrow, twisting lanes packed closely together. Roads leave the centre toward neighbouring towns, and at the edges the settlement opens out into fields.
The town has a distinguished name in Indian classical music. The Atrauli gharana, a tradition of Hindustani vocal music associated with musicians from the area, is often linked with the Jaipur-Atrauli style made famous by Alladiya Khan. Beyond music, Atraulī is a local market and administrative centre for the farming region around it.
An Atraulī map poster shows the organic plan of an old North Indian town. The core has closely packed lanes that seem to grow rather than to have been planned, main roads cross the plain in straighter lines, and fields spread out on every side. It is intricate at the centre and calm at the edges.

Roads across the Doab
Main roads leave the town in long lines across the flat plain toward neighbouring settlements, giving the map a few clear directions.
Farmland edges
Around the town, the land is divided into fields and village tracks, a light, open texture that frames the dense centre.
