Bačka Topola lies in northern Vojvodina, in the Bačka region of the Pannonian plain, where the land is almost perfectly flat and farmed in large, regular parcels. The town grew along the small Krivaja river. Its centre sits where several country roads meet before heading out across open fields toward neighbouring villages.
From above, the layout is typical of the plain: wide streets, long single-storey house fronts and deep gardens behind them, which give the blocks a stretched, rectangular shape. The town has a large Hungarian-speaking community, and its landmarks include the Kray castle set in its park. North of town, the Zobnatica reservoir and stud farm add a patch of water and green.

Krivaja river
The small Krivaja winds through the area. It is one of the few curving lines on the map and a natural counterpoint to the grid of streets and fields.
Zobnatica lake
North of the town, the reservoir at Zobnatica and its surrounding greenery form a distinct shape on the map. The area is known for the historic horse stud farm beside it.
