Baoqing is a county in Shuangyashan, in eastern Heilongjiang, on the edge of the large agricultural plain in China's far northeast. From above, the county town is compact and regular. It has a grid of broad streets with long blocks, and a rail line runs along one side.
This is one of China's main grain and soybean regions. Around the town, the land is divided into very large rectangular fields, the typical pattern of large-scale northern farming. Farther out, the low Wanda Mountains begin to break up the flat landscape.
