Old town core
The historic centre has narrower, more irregular streets than the planned districts around it, and it shows up as a darker, denser patch on the map.

Bīrjand Map Poster & Print
Bīrjand is the capital of South Khorasan Province in eastern Iran. It sits on an arid high plain, with bare mountains rising to the south. On a map the city stretches mainly east to west along the valley floor, and its newer districts extend in regular blocks away from the older centre.
The historic core has a looser, more irregular street pattern. The Birjand citadel, a restored fortress, stands on a small rise near the old town. Seasonal watercourses cross the plain, dry for much of the year, and their beds show up as open strips between built-up areas. The city is known for saffron, barberries and handwoven carpets from the surrounding region.
A Bīrjand map poster shows a desert city whose layout is set by a valley and a few main roads, not by coastlines or rivers. Wide boulevards and newer planned districts give the outer map a steady geometry, while the centre keeps the finer grain of an older settlement.

Dry watercourses
Seasonal riverbeds cross the city as open corridors. They interrupt the street grid and add organic lines to an otherwise orderly plan.
Mountain backdrop
Higher ground to the south limits growth in that direction. That is why the city stretches across the frame in a long east–west band.

The map is for people from South Khorasan living in other cities or abroad, and for those who studied at Birjand's universities. It is a restrained, graphic way to keep a desert city on the wall.
