Branching estuaries
Rivers and tidal channels spread across the coastal plain in fine, irregular lines, creating an organic pattern that fills much of the map around the town.

Cândido Mendes Map Poster & Print
Cândido Mendes is a municipality in the northwest of Maranhão, on the stretch of Brazilian coast between São Luís and the Pará border. Its map is shaped far more by water than by roads. The coastline here does not run as a clean line. It breaks into estuaries, inlets and mangrove channels that branch inland, and the town sits among them, with the Atlantic just to the north.
The urban area itself is compact: a modest grid of streets around the centre, thinning quickly into scattered buildings and tracks. Beyond it the land opens into low, wet terrain crossed by meandering rivers. On a map, the contrast between that small settled core and the wide, intricate waterways around it gives the composition its character.
A Cândido Mendes map poster works best when the frame includes the surrounding coast, so the branching channels can carry the design. Rendered in black and white, the tidal creeks look almost like the veins of a leaf, and the town's short street grid becomes a small, precise anchor within them.

Compact town centre
The settled area is small and fairly regular, a tight cluster of streets that stands out clearly against the open, water-shaped land surrounding it.
Atlantic shoreline
To the north the land dissolves into the ocean through inlets and mangrove edges, giving the coastline a soft, broken outline rather than a single hard edge.

For families from Cândido Mendes, or anyone who knows this quiet part of the Maranhão coast, the map is a reminder of home drawn in its essential lines: the town, the rivers and the sea. It also works simply as an abstract piece, because the waterways make a striking pattern.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a family name or a meaningful year. Choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper and Sand give the coastal channels a warm, natural feel.
