Equatorial setting
The equator passes just south of town, so the coordinates line on this poster reads very close to zero degrees latitude, an unusual detail for a mountain town.

Cayambe Map Poster & Print
Cayambe is a town in Pichincha province, in the northern Ecuadorian Andes, at about 2,800 metres and just north of the equator. It spreads across a broad high valley, with a grid of blocks around its central park and main streets. To the east, the ground rises towards the snow-covered volcano that shares the town's name.
The volcano is known as the highest point on the equator and the only place on the line with permanent ice, since its southern slopes cross latitude zero. The valley below is one of Ecuador's main flower-growing areas, and rose greenhouses cover much of the land around the town. Cayambe is also known for bizcochos, crisp biscuits often eaten with cheese.
A Cayambe map poster combines a regular Andean town grid with the irregular shapes of a highland landscape. Ravines cut through the slopes, rural roads zigzag uphill, and large rectangular greenhouse compounds appear as distinct blocks on the outskirts. In black and white, the map becomes an interesting meeting of human order and mountain terrain.
