Changleng lies on flat ground northwest of Nanchang in Jiangxi province, in a lowland region crossed by rivers and irrigation channels. From above, the settlement reads as a set of built-up blocks surrounded by a patchwork of fields, ponds and drainage lines. The land barely rises, so roads can run long distances without bending.
Much of the street pattern is recent. Wide, straight roads mark out large rectangular plots, and older lanes and village clusters sit between them at a smaller scale. Water is always close. Channels and small reservoirs cut through the farmland in thin lines and irregular shapes that break up the geometry of the new roads.
A Changleng map poster captures the point where town and countryside meet on the edge of a provincial capital. The mix of planned grid, older settlement and watery field pattern makes a quiet, balanced composition. It works best in the calmer styles, where the fine lines of the canals can show through.

Channels and ponds
Irrigation ditches, ponds and small waterways thread through the surrounding land. They add delicate, irregular shapes around the edges of the built area.
Village clusters
Older settlements appear as small, dense knots of lanes set among the fields. Their scale contrasts clearly with the wide modern roads.
